Panoramic X-Ray

What Is A Panoramic X-Ray

A panoramic x-ray is a complete two dimensional image of your mouth, including the jaw bone, jaw joints, teeth, nasal area and sinuses.

When Do I Need A Panoramic X-Ray

Panoramic X-Rays are often taken when on initial visits to a new dentist. These x-rays give a good starting point, revealing past treatments, trouble areas and problems such as cysts, bone irregularities and tumors.

Getting A Panoramic X-Ray

Panoramic X-Ray's are painless and require only a few seconds to perform. Patients usually stand for the procedure although adjustments can be made to the X-Ray device to allow for those confined to a wheelchair.

What Panoramic X-Rays Show

Panoramic x-rays give the dentist the big picture. The show the lower jaw or mandible and can reveal where clenching and grinding of teeth has occurred. They also show impacted teeth that can sometimes be deep down in the jaw bone.

Another great use of the panoramic x-ray has to do with identifying problems over time. A panoramic x-ray taken once ever two or three years can show progressive problems with the entire structure of your mouth over time. This is invaluable in correct diagnosis and treatment.
